Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium 'teeth' and are the best available tooth replacement treatment that dentists can offer. You do not see the titanium implant in use, because it is below the gum and beneath the crown. It is now possible to insert an implant into a gap and provide a useable tooth within half an hour.

Implants are strong, safe, simple and quick to place. It is almost impossible to tell if someone has implants. Not all dentists provide dental implants, but we offer them here as a routine dental treatment.

Subject to a favourable assessment you will benefit from implants if you have:-

• Unsightly gaps or missing teeth, which compromise your bite.
• Loose or ill fitting dentures. These can be secured straight away using a press-stud technique, making embarrassment a thing of the past.
• Teeth which are damaged and failing. This may be through gum disease, decay, cracks or abscesses. In one visit teeth can be extracted and replaced with implants so no gaps or waiting are necessary.
• Crowns and bridges that repeatedly fall out. 
• Orthodontic braces that require extra support.

Implants are routinely placed here at the clinic after just a local anaesthetic, usually requiring no surgery or stitches, this means much less hassle and worry for you. One reason why you may have decided against this treatment in the past is cost. Technology marches on and in recent years the cost, time and number of visits required has decreased. The success rates have vastly improved at the same time, so opening up this option to almost anyone.

Implant crowns and bridges, or implant retained dentures don't require natural teeth for support, because they are firmly bonded to your jaw and not your teeth. Implants can actually improve the health of your remaining teeth if you have missing teeth, by supporting your bite and taking the strain away from the remaining teeth.

In the past bridges and dentures were the only way to replace teeth, this meant drilling away perfectly good teeth to support the new ones which was clearly madness. Surely the penalty for a missing tooth shouldn't be damaging others! Dentistry is about saving your teeth and not destroying them. Implants, although having a reputation of being exotic, are actually quite a simple treatment modality compared to advanced dental work. The long-term success rate of implants far exceeds comparable tooth replacement by conventional dentistry.
