7 Tips to Good Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene and maintenance.
Basic oral hygiene and diet knowledge is the the best thing you can have to keep your teeth in top condition.
So many people have never been told how to look after their teeth and assume that problems will naturally lead to loss of teeth. Dental problems are almost always preventable. Follow these tips and you can't go wrong.
Simple advice that almost everyone can follow.
- Brush your teeth and gums at least twice per day with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Use interdental aids (ie floss, superfloss, interdental brushes) as advised by your dentist. If you don't do this then you are only cleaning half your teeth!
- Check your teeth regularly with disclosing tablets to see where you are cleaning well and which bits need more attention.
- Use a Tongue scraper to remove tongue plaque to keep your breath fresh.
- Use mouthwash to help. Remember don't rely on this overly; they help but don't work miracles. For sensitive teeth and high decay rate patients use a daily fluoride mouthwash. For gum problems use Corsodyl (may stain teeth) or listerine.
- Don't snack frequently or consume fizzy drinks and avoid any sugar before bed.
- Visit your dentist as often as advised, or before if you notice any problems.
